After a victorious Race 1 Ducati’s Chaz Davies charged from pole position but the initial laps did not go well for the Brit as he was pushed back to second behind Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes. However Sykes could not match the Ducati’s lap timing as Davies was constantly clocking between late 1 minute 46 seconds to early 1 minute 47 seconds around the 4.93 kilometer long Imola track. Once he passed Sykes, Davies was unstoppable. In the later stages of the race championship leader Jonathan Rea made a move on his teammate to clinch the second place with Sykes settling for a lone third.
Xavi Fores climbed up two positions against Race 1 and finished in fourth ahead of Race 1 podium finisher Marco Melandri. Despite Yamaha’s Alex Lowes ran off wide from the tarmac kissing some gravel battled his way to finish in sixth as the top Yamaha rider of the day.
With five rounds completed till now Rea still leads the championship table with 235 points ahead of Davies who is in second place, one point ahead of Tom Sykes who completes the top three with 160 points. With still eight rounds to go and Ducati bouncing back in winning ways the title contention is wide open.
