Chaz Davies the leading Ducati rider rode to take the superpole at WSBKImola ahead of Britons, Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea. The reigning champion Rea lead the free practice 1 while Davies came out on top in free practice 2 and 3 and he continued his form even in the qualifying.
However, things did not go as planned for the championship leader Rea as he was 6.69 seconds behind Davies. The 12 lap race had the Ducati rider finishing on the top spot of the podium, ahead of Kawasaki’s Rea and veteran Italian Marco Melandri completing the top three ahead of Sykes who settled for fourth.
MV Augusta had a reason to rejoice as their rider Leon Camier finished in sixth position behind Spaniard Xavi Fores. With Race 2 to be held tomorrow, Rea still leads the championship comfortably ahead of his teammate Sykes. With 16 wins, Ducati leads with the most number of wins at Imola. Will Davies be able to win again this year at Imola? Stay tuned for the race updates to know.
