Day 3 did not go as expected for HeroMotoSports Team Rally riders as both CS Santosh and JRod faced mechanical problems with their motorcycles. Day 4 saw both riders tackle the Marathon Stage finishing in the top 15 overall.
Because of the aftermath of the sandstorm on Day 3, the organisers had to cut the 274km Marathon Stage in the Erg Rissani region short by 80km. This was the first time the competitors crossed this region since 2014. Tackling the dunes and the steep stone ridden inclines JRod rode with great temperament finishing the day at 5th position and jumping back to 10th in the overall rankings. CS Santosh also had a good day as well finishing the stage at 17th position, maintaining his 15th position in the overall rankings.
Commenting on the teams impressive finish at the end of Day 4, Wolfgang Fischer, Team manager, Hero MotoSports Team Rally said, “Following yesterday’s difficult stage, we are happy to finish the first part of the marathon stage with both the riders arriving safely in the marathon bivouac. They reported to us through satellite phones that it was a tough stage with very challenging navigation and difficult to find hidden way-points. The bikes and the riders are in good condition and we look forward to finishing the second part of the Marathon stage tomorrow.”
