2017 Merzouga Rally Day 2: Pedrero jumps to fourth spot, Rodrigues slips to seventh

Santosh, Aravind and Tanveer have great finishes to the day

Juan Pedrero Garcia breaks into the top five after a stunning ride on the second day of the 2017 Afriquia Merzouga rally. Garcia rode his Sherco-TVS bike to finish fourth on the day and climbing up three spots to finish fourth overall in the standings.

Surprise of the day was Indian rookie Abdul Wahid Tanveer as the national champion finished ahead of his other two teammates in 30thposition. Abdul jumped up 49 spots from the first day to end the second day of rallying in 35th position overall. Aravind K P had a shaky end to his day finishing at 36th on day two and slipping down the order to 34, 14 places down from the first day.

Hero MotoSports meanwhile had a mixed day two as Joaquim Rodrigues lost crucial time in navigation while his teammate C S Santosh claimed to have ridden his best stage yet.  Due to navigational issues, J-Rod could only manage to set a seventh fastest stage time and hence currently lies seventh in the overall classifications. Santosh’s cool and calm approach to the rally saw him finishing 15th in the stage as well as overall.

The third day of the rally comprises of two loop stages, a total mileage of 175km. The riders will have to be wary of the small dunes and camel grass that may catch them out in the stages
